Project of Love is founded by Dutch professional singer-songwriter Xander Stok. Watch his powerful testimony here.

Project of Love has the mission to put all books of the Bible to song. 100% scripture put to music. This project is born out of a deep love for the Word of God.

All songs are created, recorded, mixed and produced by Xander. He sings and plays every instrument himself, except for the occasional live drums and violin. He also creates the artwork for every single.

His wife Janis creates the videos that accompany each song. She also does a lot of work behind the scenes to help make this project possible.

Project of Love was founded by Dutch professional singer-songwriter Xander Stok, whose life was radically transformed by a personal encounter with God.

“I used to be a singer/guitarist in a rockband. Suffered from severe depression for over 20 years. I lived a self-destructive, suicidal lifestyle, constantly searching for something to fill the emptiness inside. Addictions became my escape, but I never truly felt at home in this world.

Then everything changed. I had a powerful encounter with my amazingly good Father. He took me out of the pit, gave me new life, a mission, and here I am.

In January 2021, while reading the book of Isaiah, I heard a still, small voice say: ‘Grab your guitar and sing what you're reading...’ I did, and out came a beautiful song. In almost 3 weeks' time I had the book of Isaiah put to music.

Three months after that I had a dream in which Jesus told me: "This is our Project of Love. Together we will show the heart of the Father to the world." 

I dropped everything and now devote myself full-time to putting the Bible to music.

Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17).

When Project of Love started, we (Xander and his wife Janis) asked the Holy Spirit what our release schedule should be.

We both individually heard the Holy Spirit tell us to release a new song weekly (!).

Even though we both thought that would be impossible (and humanly speaking, it is), so far we have still managed to do so—even without getting exhausted! Of course, it’s challenging at times, but by now we know all we have to do is simply 'show up' and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us and work through us.

The Holy Spirit is the One who decides the pace, the exact date to release each song/scripture (and so many songs were released with supernatural timing, without us even being aware of it!), and when to take a break.

On a regular basis, we check in with the Spirit to make sure the current pace of one new release every week is still what He wants. So far, we believe we haven’t heard Him say otherwise.

This project isn't about a denomination—it's about the heart of the Father.

When Jesus called me to start this journey, He didn’t ask which denomination I belonged to. He simply said, “Together we will show the heart of the Father to the world.”

I put Scripture to music so people from every background can encounter God’s love through His own words. It’s not about labels—it’s about knowing Jesus, loving like He did, and bringing glory to the Father.

Project of Love's music is 100% free of AI. I personally don't believe AI has a place in worship music. It should be in s(S)pirit and in truth (John 4:24).

Every song, every video is made in close collaboration with the Holy Spirit.

When it comes to our videos, we aim for authenticity. Around 95% of what you see is real footage, captured either by us or by talented filmmakers (cineasts) from around the world.

However, for specific scenes—like Biblical characters or animations—we occasionally use AI-generated visuals. We don’t take that decision lightly. Filming such content ourselves would be far too expensive and time-consuming, especially since we release a new video every week.

If you prefer to avoid any AI involvement altogether, feel free to enjoy our music on Spotify, iTunes, or other platforms—those are entirely AI-free.

It's illegal to download songs from Youtube, unless you become a Premium Youtube subscriber, then you get to download videos for 30 days. But otherwise, it's illegal. We don't think you'll be wanting to worship God through illegally obtained worship, right? 😉

Not yet—but live performances will undoubtedly come.

Back in 2021, the Holy Spirit clearly impressed on me not to perform live for the first three years. My current assignment is to focus fully on setting as many books of the Bible to music as possible—filling the granaries, so to speak 😉—and sharing these songs with the world.

Each week, our songs reach thousands—sometimes hundreds of thousands—of people. That kind of impact is a gift I don’t take lightly.

Live performances require a completely different focus and would pause the flow of new Scripture-based music. For now, my priority is to stay closely in step with the Spirit and give this work the full attention it deserves.

Currently I'm using the New Living Translation (NLT), the New King James Version (NKJV), the Message Translation (MSG) and incidentally New International Version (NIV).

At the time, I was reading the NLT when I heard the Holy Spirit say: "Grab your guitar and sing what you're reading." So I mainly stuck with that translation for the book of Isaiah.

Also, Jesus told me in the dream: "This is our Project of Love. Together we will show the heart of the Father to the WORLD."

So, my songs must be relatable to ALL people, not just seasoned Christians. 😉

For each song I will try and listen to the Spirit, to see which translation He prefers for the song. He's very particular that way, I've found.

Yes, ALL the words in Project of Love songs are literally 1-on-1 from the Bible.

Sometimes, though, I feel I'm prompted by the Holy Spirit to make a song personal, so it becomes a proclamation. For instance, take the song for Colossians 1:9-10. In the first verse, I changed:

'We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding'

into

'I ask You, God, to give me complete knowledge of your will and to give me spiritual wisdom and understanding'

When reading the Bible it's like the Holy Spirit 'highlights' the specific verses He wants me to use in a song. That way, I know which verses to use.

For each song I will try and listen to the Spirit, to see which translation He prefers for the song. He's very particular that way, I've found.

The short answer: no—the Word of God is infallible. Translations are not.

The New Testament was originally written in everyday street Greek so that everyone—rich or poor—could understand it. That same heart still applies today.

Translations aren’t perfect, but God’s Word is. I personally read many different translations, such as NKJV, NIV, NLT, and The Message. Different styles speak to different people—and that’s okay! The Message, for example, speaks deeply to my heart as a poet and worshiper.

Don’t get stuck trying to find the one “true” translation. Instead, find the one that helps you fall in love with God. Read it with the Holy Spirit, and let the words come alive.
