Isaiah 40 & Matthew 3 - Prepare the Way

Matthew 3

3. 'Prepare the way
Clear the road for Him!’

Isaiah 40

3. Listen! It’s the voice of someone shouting,
“Clear the way through the wilderness for the LORD!
Make a straight highway through the wasteland
for our God!

4. Fill in the valleys,
and level the mountains and hills.
Straighten the curves,
and smooth out the rough places.

5. Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed

Matthew 3

3. ‘Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming!
Clear the road for Him!’

2. Repent of your sins and turn to God,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.

8. Prove by the way you live
you have repented of your sins
and turned to God.

10. The ax of God’s judgment is poised,
ready to sever the roots of the trees.
Yes, every tree that doesn't produce good fruit
will be chopped down and thrown into the fire.

New Living Translation (NLT)

Be a waymaker. Now more than ever.

Edit: I wrote my weekly message last Tuesday. But Janis and I were shocked to hear about Charlie Kirk's murder.
We pray for Charlie's family and loved ones, for the American people. We pray for a rise of BOLD, Spirit-filled waymakers.
I believe the Lord gave me this song for this very reason.

Some time into my summer break, Jesus asked me to put Matthew 3 to song, particularly verses 2, 3, 8, and 10, as well as verses from Isaiah 40, with emphasis on verse 3:

“Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming! Clear the road for Him!”

Now, to be clear, this is not the usual order of things. Ordinarily, the Spirit highlights specific verses in my quiet time that He'd like me to put to music. Requests such as this one are rare, and I know from experience that they are urgent.

You know that Project of Love started when I heard His voice say, "Grab your guitar and sing what you're reading." Some time after that, Jesus told me that Project of Love would be like a waymaker, preparing the way for Him.

Isaiah 55:11 says:

“I send it (My Word) out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.”

And it does. We love hearing about how our songs with the Word have impacted lives around the world.

You tell us in your testimonies about healing, about encounters with God's love, grace, and power, about transformation, and about being filled with His presence. His Word produces fruit.

The Spirit showed me a beautiful image about the Word not returning empty. I saw Noah releasing the dove. The first time, the dove came back empty-handed. You know why? It had no place to land. The second time, it returned with an olive leaf.

The Word needs a place to land, preferably in a willing heart where it will grow and prosper.

Those words need to be carried by the dove, the Holy Spirit, in order to prosper and transform.

And when that happens, we become waymakers for the Lord.

Waymakers are, I believe, Spirit-filled people, changed and transformed by the love of Jesus. Matthew 3:8 says to prove by the way you live that you have really changed. Let your actions and witness clear a path for others to experience God's grace and love.

Jesus warns us in Matthew 23:13 to not let our lives be roadblocks to God’s kingdom.

Be a waymaker.

Paul taught us in 2 Corinthians 10:5 to "destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God."

In other words, be a waymaker. How?
Do what Jesus did. He is the Way. 🔥
